Come listen to our rocking 8th grade band, "Cold Reality" comprised of Jake Nelson, Zack Graham, and Nick Mammolette! They will be performing as part of Georgetown Days on Sunday, 12:00 behind the Georgetown Library.
On Saturday, October 25th, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the state of New Hampshire, in conjunction with Seabrook Station, will conduct an audible demonstration of all 121 of the Public Alert and Notification System (PANS) sirens that are located within Seabrook Station’s 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ). There are 27 sirens located in Massachusetts, within the communities of Amesbury, Merrimac, Newbury, Newburyport, Salisbury and West Newbury, with 94 in New Hampshire.
This demonstration is a public information endeavor designed to increase public awareness of what the sirens sound like and what to do if they are ever sounded due to a declared emergency.
The siren demonstration will begin at 12:30pm on October 25th, lasting from 3-5 minutes, and will end by 12:35pm.
The bi-annual Georgetown Music Parents Auction is being held this year on Friday November 7, 6-11 PM at the Georgetown Club. Please come and support our active music program. There will be a silent and a live auction. If you would like to donate items to be auctioned or you have any questions about the aucition, please contact the Georgetown Music Parents at themusicauction@yahoo.com.

Grade 8:
Mrs. Bailey: All classes have a two-sided vocabulary worksheet to complete tonight on the lesson 5 words. No vocab test tomorrow as there will be a two lesson test, lessons 5&6 next Friday, October 31st. We will be finishing Julius Caesar next week with a closing test on the material covered shortly thereafter. The classes will begin working on a Persuasive Essay as soon as the Julius Caesar studies have been completed. Students should be reminded that report cards are not too far off…many people have outstanding work that should be made up.
Mrs. Mongeau: Please bring in a picture and name of someone who has served in the American armed forces. The pictures will be displayed on a wall in honor of Veterans Day. I am looking for a veteran who would be willing to speak to our students on November 9th from 1:00 p.m. to 2:15. Mrs. Hickey’s classes: Some students in my F and E blocks have an energy pyramid to work on over the weekend. We started them in class, and some students completed them, while others did not. I collected the research reports today. Since there are around 90 to correct, I do not expect to return the reports to the students anytime before November 3rd, assuming I grade 10 every day. There will be a quiz next Tuesday, October 28th on Chapter 2, section 1. The quiz will focus on food webs, food chains, vocabulary terms and energy pyramids. These are important concepts that have appeared on the MCAS in the past. Have a nice weekend.

Mrs. Harrington: Science Homework - Due: Friday--10/31 Designing Your Earth Model Layers
Students will be responsible in making a model that illustrates their understanding of the 4 major layers of the Earth. The skill’s focus for this project is:
*application of the concepts learned in the chapter text to a model of Earth’s interior;
*interpret data to make their model to scale;
*design and make a model of the Earth’s interior and features of the surface;
*communicate the features in their model in presentation to class.

Ms. Bailey and Ms. Francis are leading the Builders Club and want to remind you that there is no activity fee for this program. It’s not too late to join and it is a great way to give back to your community. Here are some of the ideas the students have already come up with:

As the outline indicated, this is the only written Science homework the students have had for two weeks. Late reports will not be accepted. The report counts as a quiz. A number of students brought in their report early. I have made corrections and suggestions to these students so that they might receive a better grade. A signature from a parent or guardian on the final report is worth 5 bonus points toward the report grade. I did this hoping that students would share their work with their parents and possibly get some feedback from you prior to the report being passed in. Last but not least, a reminder that there is a quiz on Chapter 2, section 1 on Tuesday.

It is also a way of communicating with parents in a timely manner so that there are no “surprise” grades at the end of the marking period. Students who have the quiz signed are eligible for extra credit to improve their quiz grade. The only other homework is the research report due this Friday. A number of students handed it in early so that I could check the report for mistakes and give them the opportunity to fix those mistakes prior to handing in the final report. I am planning a quiz next Tuesday, October 28th on Chapter 2, Section 1.

Reminder: The final research report is due Friday, October 24th. It is worth a quiz grade. Late reports will NOT be accepted. Some students have passed in the rough drafts early so that I could correct them before the final copy is turned in. Great planning! The only homework students have for the week is the research report on a symbiotic relationship or animal adaptations that is due this Friday, (10/20) Today I reminded students that if the report ( or rough draft or paragraph templates) was turned in early, I would check it for content, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. The report would be returned to the student so they could make corrections before the final report is turned in. Also, as the outline indicated, the students receive 5 bonus points for having it signed by a parent or guardian before the final report is turned in.
