Grade 7:

ALL GRADE 7 STUDENTS:
Please come back to school in January recharged in spirit and supplies. We have noticed that many students no longer have filler paper in notebooks, book covers or writing utensils with them each day. Please stock up!!! In addition, we are once again out of tissues and hand sanitizer- any contributions would be greatly appreciated- and will help to keep everyone healthy! We are looking forward to having our team come back ready and recharged for a superfine 2009!

Ms. DiFruscio: Any students working on assignments to improve Egypt test grade need to pass these in tomorrow. I gave an extension on this from today due to the unscheduled changes of Friday’s school day.

You will not be required to do any homework during the holiday vacation but, as always, I encourage you to take an active role in your learning so you may want to complete some of the research questions as well as locating the materials you will need to make your model. You will be responsible to complete a booklet as well as a model.
There will be an integrated subject showcase following the final project due date sometime after the 12th.

To study for tomorrow;s test students can use the websites:
http://www.conjuguemos.com/ and could practice the vocabulary by book (our book is paso a paso a-chapter 4) or practice conjugating REGULAR –ar and –er verbs in the present tense.
http://www.pasoapaso.com/ which is the books website. There is a self test on the webpage with instant feedback. We did it yesterday in class but it wouldn’t hurt to do it again as there are a couple of tests generated so he may not get the same one.
http://www.quia.com/ click on quiaweb then click on Spanish. Put in –ar –er verbs present tense and a bunch of activities come up.
F Block-Split sheet for vocabulary Section 1 chapter 5 (pages 190-191) Students had ten minutes left in class after our chapter test and most at least began the assignment, some finished already!

The quiz is to be signed and returned.

Both of these assignments are to be signed and returned by tomorrow if they have not been returned by now. Most of my A block students have not received their quiz back. Mrs. Lyon: The 6th grade students in Computers are learning to use email. As part of the lesson they are also learning how to be safe online. An important aspect of being safe on line is identifying a trusted adult that students can share concerns or ask questions. Computer6 students have selected 3 trusted adults; one from home, one from school, and one other. An adult is someone over twenty-one. If your student is in Computers their home work assignment is to deliver their “Trusted Adult” thank you cards.

Congratulations to all of the Middle School band students! Your concert on Tuesday night was very impressive! Thanks to all who put in so much effort to make this happen and special thanks to Mr. Kaminsky for his tireless work on behalf of our students.

All Classes: Book Report due on December 16

Mrs. Hickey: ALL CLASSES: The only homework over Thanksgiving break is for the students to hold onto and NOT LOSE their seed dispersal lab report. We worked on the Analyze and Conclude section today in all of the classes. I stressed the need for students to put their lab reports in a SAFE place. On Monday, we will complete the lab report in class and put all of the pieces together. As we have spent 5 days on the lab experiment and lab report, the lab will count 5 times!!!!!

DiFruscio: Students received a guided reading handout packet for all of Chapter 3 yesterday. Mrs. Hickey’s Classes: The students got back their photosynthesis quizzes today. ALL students should have the quiz signed. Having the quiz signed is an assignment. Also, some students need to redo 2 of the essay questions on the quiz. A sheet is attached to the top of the quiz that gives directions for this. Students will receive credit for the questions they redo, and the points will be added to the quiz grade. This assignment is due tomorrow. In class we tested various seeds for their ability to attach to animal fur and be dispersed by the wind. Tomorrow we will test whether or not these seeds can be dispersed by water.

Mrs. Morrison: A and B – Study for voc. test; E and F – Study voc. words for Ch. 3

Mrs. Sheridan: Wed., Nov 19: A, E, F – Finish vocab cards: solid, liquid, gas, plasma. Include relationship to shape, volume, particle arrangement, particle motion, and freedom of movement,
G – Research the internet to find an example of each: 1) plasma on Earth, 2) plasma in space, and 3) man-made plasma.
Tues., Nov 18: A – none; C, G – Finish vocab cards; E – 3-2-1 Activity: 3 ways to measure the energy of particles ; 2 examples of each; 1 reason why we need to know about the energy of particles; F - none.

Mrs. Bailey: Students are working on Lesson 9 vocabulary exercises which are all due on Friday this week. Our rough drafts for the persuasive essay will be written and peer edited by Friday. Mrs. Hickey’s classes: There is no homework tonight but there will be homework tomorrow. We are starting out first “official” lab tomorrow. Students will examine seed dispersal over the next few days and write their first formal “lab report”. Students were given a lab report format sheet and we started writing the first part of the lab today. Tomorrow students will observe the seeds and form hypotheses about how they think the seeds will be dispersed- by wind, water, or attaching to animal fur. The homework that is assigned tomorrow will be related to the lab. Thursday’s homework will also be related to the lab report.

Ms. DiFruscio: E block only: Finish Chapter 3 vocab (page 103 all terms) if not completed in class. Please remember to SKIP 4 LINES AFTER THE DEFINITION OF EACH TERM so we can use this pager for an additional assignment.

GMHS MiniLinks Challenge! Saturday, November 15th at the GMHS Gym. Tee Times: 10:30 AM, 12 Noon, 1:30PM, 3PM
Information about the tournament:
You will be competing against other teams from the Middle and High School. Prizes will be given to the winning team. Each member of your team will need to raise at least $25 from sponsors in order to play. The idea is to get several small donations to make up the $25. Please collect your donations ahead of time and bring them to the tournament. The top three individual fundraisers for the tournament will be awarded prizes. Please call or email Beth Willis at 978-352-5953 or bethwillis@verizon.net to register. When registering, you will need to pick a tee time for your team: 10:30AM, 12 Noon, 1:30PM, 3PM.
There are also prizes for the team showing the most Georgetown Spirit!

All Students:
Mini Golf Tournament at GMHS this Saturday from 9-3 pm. Grab a form at the main office or stop by on Saturday to compete in this fun 18 hole mini-golf tournament. Cost is $25.00 and will go to the Georgetown PTA. Don’t miss out of this challenge! See you all there!!

Boy’s Varsity Soccer Team competes in the 3rd round of states today at 5:00pm against St. Mary’s. Come support the boy’s soccer team! Good Luck Boys!!

All Students:
Middle School Mini Golf Tournament: the Georgetown PTA is sponsoring an indoor Mini Golf tournament on Saturday,November 15th at the GMHS. The tournament begins at 9:00 a.m. for all Georgetown Middle High School students. To participate in the tournament please contact Kathy Boyd (kboyd12@comcast.net) or Beth Willis (bethwillis@verizon.net). We will be opening up the golf course to the public 4:30 to 6:30. A concession stand will be open to purchase hot dogs, beverages and candy. We are looking for donations of packaged snacks (chips, popcorn, cookies candy) & soda & bottled water. Any donations can be dropped off at the gym on Saturday morning.

Grade 7:
Mrs. Hickey’s classes: F block got back 1 or 2 papers about photosynthesis. They do not have grades on them. Students have been given the opportunity to correct their mistakes. All Classes: There will be a quiz on photosynthesis on Thursday. I told the students about it last week, and originally had it planned for Wednesday. I changed it to Thursday as the students have a Social Studies quiz on Wednesday. We have already discussed what the quiz will cover and what to study, but students will receive a study guide on Wednesday. They already have a special packet to study from, as the Environmental Science book does not cover photosynthesis in depth. Also, students will have their reports returned to them today or Wednesday. The grade for the report went towards their quarter 1 grade in Science.
