Updates and Homework for 6/10:

All Students:
From Mr. Masys: If anyone is interested in running cross country next year, there is a meeting after school on Tuesday, June 16 in the health room.

A reminder to all 7th grade students: the peer mentor meeting will be held tomorrow in Ms. DiFruscio's room at 2:20!!! Ms. Francis and Mr. Bruno will be running the meeting.

PLEASE BE ADVISED – CHANGE OF VENUE FOR THE ROYAL RUMBLE!!!!
To those who have purchased tickets for this Saturday’s Football Game, because of the weather we anticipate that Georgetown football field will be unplayable this Saturday. Therefore, we have moved the game to Triton Regional High School, located off exit 55, Rt. 95 N in Newbury.
Tickets will be available at the gate on game day.
Kick off has been pushed to 1:30pm to allow the extra few minutes of travel time.
Thank you for supporting this event which we hope will have a tremendous impact on the athletic programs in the Georgetown Schools. The Boston Raven & Manchester Devils are looking forward to a great game.

Grade 7:
Mrs. Hickey- All classes:
We are studying mitosis. Students are to copy the green diagrams that appear on pages 64-65 of their textbook. They should label the diagrams (for example,
“prophase”) and what they can in the diagram (spindle fibers, chromosomes, etc) but they do NOT have to copy all of the captions next to the diagrams. I gave students a piece of unlined white paper to work on.
Also- in regards to the biome/animal project. I told the students who have not been passing the project homework ( 2 or 3 questions a night) in on time not to complete the project (model of a biome or animal). The project is open to those students who have done the homework completely and on time, for extra credit, as a quiz grade. Students have and will receive credit for all of the questions they turned in. If they did not do the homework it is a zero, as usual. The last of the 9 questions were due today. I do not think 2 questions a night, 9 total in a week, is too much for 7th grade. Unfortunately, some students have not followed through with their assignments.
Finally, the last quiz of the year in Science will be next Thursday, June 18th. It will cover the topics we are studying now.Students will have study sheets as well as their text. This is NOT a cumulative final exam, and will count as much as any other quiz they have taken.

Attention 7th grade parents: we are starting a peer mentoring program for incoming 8th graders for next fall! Many students came home this week with applications and a teacher nomination letter to become peer mentors. During the last week of August, a group of 25-30 incoming 8th graders will take part in a one day training, along with the high school peer mentors, and assist in running the 6th grade orientation. Peer mentors will be matched with a small group of incoming 6th grade students throughout the school year (meeting with mentees once/month to do a variety of activities). Most meetings will occur outside of the realm of the academic day.

Ms. Francis and I are holding an informational meeting for students who received applications and letters and for any other student who is interested in becoming a peer mentor. The meeting will be held this Thursday, June 11, in Ms. DiFruscio's room from 2:20-2:45.
