Grade 7:
Ms. DiFruscio: I wanted to make parents aware that in grade 7 Social Studies this week we have been discussing the events of the Holocaust in preparation for a reading assignment in their Language Arts class. We have discussed the basic history of and the shocking, violent and deplorable nature of these events. Students have watched/are watching a movie* about the concept of mob mentality and we are discussing the ideas of stereotyping, discrimination and scapegoating as they apply here. For many students this is their first experience in education about the Holocaust and therefore and I wanted to let parents know about our discussions in case they wish to further the discussion at home.
Deb DiFruscio
(*ps- movie: The Wave- and ABC Afterschool Special from the 1980’s which I am sure many parents remember watching!)
DiFruscio: All students are reminded to come to school well rested and prepared for the final ELA session on Monday morning. Don’t forget a book to read also! A& B blocks need to complete their THE WAVE writing assignment for next TUESDAY. Have a nice weekend!
Mrs. Hickey-Science: E and F block classes got back their Snail Labs today. These counted 4 times toward their lab average. The labs are to be signed and returned. This is considered an assignment for which the students receive credit. A few students got back their Mollusk quiz today. Everyone who took the quiz has had it returned. I also gave students as extra credit sheet for the Mollusk quiz. They can only do the extra credit if the quiz has been signed and returned. Also, they must complete the entire activity as directed and pass it in by the due date. We are in the middle of our Pill Bug Lab. We should finish it tomorrow, or Monday at the latest. There is no other homework.
