Updates and Homework for 4/10:

All Students:
Attention all parents:

SEPAC is hosting a meeting on April 14th which should be of interest to many parents. Would you please post it on the blog so that the word spreads to the middle school parents? Here is the information:

DATE: APRIL 14TH
TIME: 6:30pm
PLACE: Georgetown Peabody Library

The topic is diet & nutrition and the effects they have on learning.
Speakers will include: Carol Sheehan, owner of My Low-Carb Life. Carol is a past PAC president and mother of a child with Down Syndrome, ADHD and celiac disease. she'll be discussing the options for diet which include low and no carb, gluton free and supplements and their link to learning. Recipes and food samples will be provided.

Heather Driscoll, Speech Pathologist at the Georgetown Middle High School. Heather's son is on the autism spectrum. Her journey in addressing her son's autism has included alternative diet and nutrition. Heather has graciously agreed to share her story and the results her son has experienced.

Food samples, receipes and local nutrion resources and references will be provided.

This is a very relevant topic - diet affects every child, not just those who have learning differences, I encourage every parent to attend this discussion.

From Mr. Masys: Middle school track starts next week. Practices will start at 2:30 and end at 4:00. 6th grade will practice on Tuesday and Friday. 7th grade will practice Wednesday and Friday. 8th grade will practice Thursday and Friday. Athletes should be changed and ready to run at 2:30. Thank you.

UPDATE FROM MRS. LYON: Computer6 continues to work on their keyboarding skills. As the quarter closes 54% of the students are half way through learning all the keys. They have evaluated their individual progress and set new goals for quarter four. Each student has created an Excel spreadsheet, which they will use to graph and evaluate their progress.

Computer7 has their blog up and running. We had a few bumps along the way with getting everyone access but now we should be smooth sailing. Their latest blog is on their current exploration of Briar Rose by Jane Yollan and The Island on Bird Street by Uri Orlev. During quarter three they worked on their PowerPoint skills by creating a presentation on Netiquette (Etiquette on the Internet). Currently they are learning how to create tables in Word, animate text, and create hyperlinks using their English vocabulary words. Their final product will be two documents, one a divided page of vocabulary words with definitions and graphics and a separate document with a short story with the vocabulary words animated and hyperlinked to the divided page document. Hopefully they will see the value of the tables as a vocabulary study tool. The students continue to practice their keying skills using MicroType and are keeping track of their progress using an Excel spreadsheet they created.

Computer8 continues to polish their keying skills using MicroType at the beginning of each class. They are tracking their progress using Excel. They have analyzed and summarized their progress in a Word document and incorporated a copy of their charted Excel data. Currently students are creating a PowerPoint based on the Amendments. Their PowerPoint includes background music, a personal recording, images, and animations. At the completion of their PowerPoint they will present their work to the class.

· Three main body paragraphs –use catchy topic sentences and details for each of your (3) topics about change.
